Baseball Game Preview: Sylmar Spartans vs. Marshall Barristers

The Sylmar Spartans will be taking part in a tournament against the Marshall Barristers at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. Sylmar's pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so Marshall's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Sylmar and Roosevelt, and Sylmar kept the tradition alive. The Spartans never let the Rough Riders get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory on Tuesday.

The result came thanks to Rickee Luevano's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Luis Mendoza was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Marshall unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They lost 11-2 to Cleveland.

Sylmar's win was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average this season. As for Marshall, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.

Sylmar took their win against Marshall in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 9-1 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Barristers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
