Softball Recap: Oakland Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Oakland can now relate to. They fell just short of the Walker Valley Mustangs by a score of 1-0 on Friday. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Patriots were not able to get on the board.

Kyleigh Higgs spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jada Ellison made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one double. She has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 11 times she's played.

Oakland's loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 24-7-2. As for Walker Valley, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 32-8.

As of now, neither Oakland nor the Mustangs have any future games scheduled.
