Baseball Recap: Weld Central Takes a Loss

Weld Central extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-10 in the process. They lost 15-4 to the Fort Morgan Mustangs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rebels of the 20-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2022.

Luke Witzel was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. Andruw Prince also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Fort Morgan, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-9. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by seven runs or more this season.

On Fort Morgan's side, JJ Marquez spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Fort Morgan got a massive performance out of Angel Lopez, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave Lopez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Miguel Davila, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Weld Central has already played their next game, a 5-1 defeat against Brush on the 24th. As for Fort Morgan, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-4 victory against Strasburg on the 24th.
