Recap: South Aiken Thoroughbreds vs. Midland Valley Mustangs

If The South Aiken Thoroughbreds were riding high off their 38-15 takedown of the Airport Eagles last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. South Aiken took a serious blow against Midland Valley on Friday, falling 56-28. While losing is never fun, South Aiken can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 88th, while Midland Valley is ranked 20th).

Despite the loss, South Aiken had strong showings from Terrence Smith, who rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown, and Jevon Edwards, who gained 158 total yards and a touchdown. Edwards is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played.

Leading Midland Valley to victory were Preston Mcnair and Traevon Dunbar. Mcnair rushed for 93 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 carries, while Dunbar rushed for 313 yards and four touchdowns on only nine carries.

South Aiken's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 White Knoll and 7-2 North Augusta (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 82.2% over those games). As for Midland Valley, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Aiken will take on Aiken at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Aiken comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Midland Valley, they will be playing at home against North Augusta at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. North Augusta is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
