Softball Recap: Clear Spring Blazers vs. James Buchanan Rockets

Clear Spring had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-10 to make it seven. They lost 12-2 to the James Buchanan Rockets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rockets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-0 back in March.

As for James Buchanan, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-7. Considering they have won five games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For James Buchanan's part, Lilianna Wiley was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). Wiley has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Karli Gordon was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Mekenzie Gayman, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clear Spring will face off against Smithsburg at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blazers are facing the Leopards at the right time seeing as the Leopards are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for James Buchanan, they will challenge Shippensburg at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
