Baseball Recap: Homestead Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Homestead extended their winning streak to nine on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 10-1 in the process. They came out on top against the Norwell Knights by a score of 4-0. Give the Spartans' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Homestead got a great performance from Luke Riha as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Riha has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Aiden Phillips was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Johnnie Ankenbruck, who went 3-for-4 with one run.

As for Norwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. The loss was just more heartbreak for they, who fell 7-5 when the teams last met back in May of 2023.

On Norwell's side, they got a good showing from Noah Turk, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, Turk gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Homestead will head out to face off against South Bend Adams at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Spartans are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Norwell, they will head out on the road to take on Angola at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Knights will also cruise into their next matchup with the timing on their side: the Hornets will have lost nine straight heading into Friday's game.
