The Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots will head out on the road to challenge the Alice Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mission Veterans Memorial has three straight victories, Alice has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Mission Veterans Memorial earned a 28-16 win over Sharyland.
Roman Reyna was his usual excellent self, rushing for 134 yards and three TDs on only 14 carries, while also throwing for 233 yards and one touchdown. A healthy portion of that aerial production (88 yards to be exact) went to Joey Hernandez.
Mission Veterans Memorial didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Sharyland to a completion percentage of just 42.3%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from four players: Cuauhtemoc Labastida, Ryan Guerra, Nathan Rodriguez, and JJ Garza, who each logged one passes deflected. Mission Veterans Memorial hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.48 or higher in four consecutive games.

Mission Veterans Memorial didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of RJ Garcia and Guerra. Guerra is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last 18 games he's played dating back to last season. Another thorn in Sharyland's side was Labastida, who picked up a sack, made 16 total tackles, and defended one pass.
Meanwhile, Alice scored the most points they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 32-31 to Sharyland. While the Coyotes didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Rattlers 17-11 in the first quarter.
Alice's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Mission Veterans Memorial, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Mission Veterans Memorial couldn't quite finish off Alice when the teams last played back in October of 2024 and fell 26-23. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Coyotes' Ryder Salaiz, who rushed for 133 yards and one score on only 12 carries. Now that the Patriots know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
