Baseball Recap: Riverside Gets the Win

Riverside won the last time they faced Mayfield and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Beavers walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Wildcats. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Beavers.

Ethan Hay spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits. He has become a key player for Riverside: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

At the plate, Riverside's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lelynd Chapman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. Austin Kalb was another, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.

Riverside now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Mayfield, they dropped their record down to 4-12 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home.

Riverside and Mayfield could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Beavers will square off against Lake at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (237 vs. 81). Meanwhile, Mayfield (ranked 401st) will meet Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin (ranked 26th) at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
