Baseball Recap: Five Straight Home Victories for Spearfish

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Huron, Spearfish was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They came out on top against the Washington Warriors by a score of 9-5. The Spartans have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Warriors, too.

Sean Sewell made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Tucker Olson was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025. Darin Crooks was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Spearfish's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Washington, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Coming up, Spearfish will hit the road for the first time this season to take on Yankton at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Washington, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Grand Forks Central at 3:30 p.m. on April 10.
