Baseball Recap: Southwestern Heights Has No Trouble Against Hugoton

Southwestern Heights made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Hugoton, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over the Eagles on Thursday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by nine runs or more this season.

Manny Mendoza was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off nine hits. Mendoza was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Wyatt Friessen and Parker Leak did most of the damage at the plate: Friessen scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Leak went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those four runs gave Friessen a new career-high. Roberto Sigala was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Southwestern Heights kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Southwestern Heights' win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Hugoton, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Southwestern Heights has already played their next game, a 10-8 victory against Cimarron on the 10th. As for Hugoton, they will square off against Ulysses on Tuesday.
