Basketball Recap: Hilton Head Island Takes a Loss

Hilton Head Island lost against Harlan County back in December of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Sunday. The Hilton Head Island Seahawks fell 66-57 to the Harlan County Black Bears. While losing is never fun, the Seahawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 105th in South Carolina, while the Black Bears are ranked 20th in Kentucky).

Despite the loss, Hilton Head Island still got an impressive performance from Tajae Wright, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Reece Stewart, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points.

Even though they lost, Hilton Head Island was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Hilton Head Island's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Harlan County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.

Hilton Head Island will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Savannah Country Day at 3:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025. Harlan County will also get a bit of a break before their next contest: they'll face off against Harlan at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2025.
