Baseball Game Preview: South Pittsburg Pirates vs. Lookout Valley Yellowjackets

The South Pittsburg Pirates will square off against the Lookout Valley Yellowjackets at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. South Pittsburg will be strutting in after a victory while Lookout Valley will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with six losses in a row dating back to last season, South Pittsburg turned things around against Chattanooga Central on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Pounders a 5-0 shutout. The Pirates' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

The team relied heavily on Jace Stone, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Kaden Baker also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Lookout Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against North Murray, falling 9-0.

Lookout Valley saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eli Pell, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base.

Lookout Valley's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for South Pittsburg, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

South Pittsburg took their victory against Lookout Valley in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0. Will South Pittsburg repeat their success, or does Lookout Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
