Preview: Antioch Panthers vs. Deer Valley Wolverines
Antioch is 9-0 against Deer Valley since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Antioch Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Deer Valley Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Antioch is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Deer Valley in California (Antioch is ranked 213th, while Deer Valley is ranked 663rd).
Antioch can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They claimed a resounding 44-0 win over Freedom at home.
Larenzo Mayfield continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 100 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries, while also throwing for 112 yards and three touchdowns. Mayfield is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Curtis Tucker was another key contributor, gaining 162 total yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Deer Valley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 49-6 loss at the hands of Liberty. Deer Valley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 21-0.
Antioch is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Deer Valley, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-5.
Everything came up roses for Antioch against Deer Valley when the teams last played back in September of 2022 as the squad secured a 61-16 victory. Will Antioch repeat their success, or does Deer Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
