Volleyball Recap: Diamond Bar Starts Season with Win Against Citrus Valley

Diamond Bar had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They had just enough and edged out the Citrus Valley Blackhawks 2-1. This was payback for the Brahmas, who suffered a 2-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Diamond Bar who won the one that mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 23-25, 15-9.

Ava Furumoto was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had 16 digs and one assist. Those 16 digs gave her a new career-high.

Diamond Bar was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in six consecutive games dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Citrus Valley still got an impressive performance from Sophia Swogger, who had 23 digs and four assists. Swogger has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more digs the last nine times she's played.

Diamond Bar wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 2-0 victory against Hillcrest on the 9th. As for Citrus Valley, they have also already played their next match, a 2-0 win against Alta Loma on the 9th.
