Baseball Recap: Naples Triumphs

Naples proved they can win big last Friday (they won by seven) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Evangelical Christian Sentinels, sneaking past 7-6. This was a revenge game for the Golden Eagles: when they faced off against the Sentinels back in February, they had to take a 5-3 defeat.

CHASE BAKER tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Naples is 4-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, NICO BLANCO was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. Naples is 5-2 when BLANCO posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise. ETHAN KATZ was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Naples is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. Evangelical Christian is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Naples will head out to challenge Bonita Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Naples is facing Bonita Springs at the right time seeing as Bonita Springs is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Evangelical Christian, they will head out on the road to take on Aubrey Rogers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Aubrey Rogers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Evangelical Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
