Basketball Recap: Clay Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Clay's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Englewood Rams by a score of 24-14. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Blue Devils as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Clay's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Yuliana Garcia-Rodriguez led the charge by putting up eight points and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Summers, who posted four points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.

Despite the defeat, Englewood saw an underclassman step up: freshman Tiarra Redding put up seven points along with five boards and three steals. That was a full 50% of Englewood's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Clay's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Englewood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.

Clay will take on Keystone Heights in a holiday battle at 5:30 p.m. on Monday at. As for Englewood, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 31-21 win against West Nassau on the 11th.
