Football Recap: Ponaganset Chieftains vs. East Greenwich Avengers
Ponaganset took care of business in their home opener on Friday (and then some). They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the East Greenwich Avengers 35-0 at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Chieftains just coasted through the last quarter.
Ponaganset had a senior duo take command as Trevor Lytle picked up 116 receiving yards and two touchdowns and Robert Grenga threw for 136 yards and two touchdowns on only nine passes. Lytle's longest reception was for an impressive 56 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Ponaganset was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 221 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Greenwich only rushed for 40.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ponaganset will take on Mt. Hope at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for East Greenwich, they will look to take advantage of their home-field for the first time this season as they take on Blackstone Valley Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
