Softball Recap: Central Wildcats vs. Lexington Tigers
Central took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Lexington, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildcats skirted past the Tigers 6-5. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 9-1 win the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2016.
Chloe May made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mycah Beth Ray, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Isla Hardy was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Central's record now sits at 20-8. As for Lexington, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 24-10-2 record.
Coming up, Central will take on Bob Jones in a tournament on Friday. The Wildcats are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Lexington, they will challenge Westview at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
