Preview: Midland Legacy Rebels vs. Odessa Bronchos

Midland Legacy is 8-1 against Odessa since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Midland Legacy Rebels will head out on the road to face off against the Odessa Bronchos at 7:00 p.m. Midland Legacy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 425 points over their last nine games.

Even though Midland scored an imposing 31 points on Friday, Midland Legacy still came out on top. Midland Legacy strolled past Midland with points to spare, taking the game 49-31.

Marcos Davila was his usual excellent self, throwing for 392 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.3 yards per attempt, and also punching in a rushing score. Midland Legacy also got a significant boost from Damien Johnson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 84 yards.

Meanwhile, Odessa pushed their score all the way to 49 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were beaten by Frenship 77-49. While losing is never fun, Odessa can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 189th, while Frenship is ranked 43rd).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Mikey Cota, who threw for 347 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 71.8% of his passes. Cota hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for four straight games. Ivan Carreon did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 112 receiving yards.

Midland Legacy's win lifted them to 7-2 while Odessa's defeat dropped them down to 5-4.

We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as both teams have no problem gaining yardage. Midland Legacy has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 541.8 total yards per game. However, it's not like Odessa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 411.6 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.

Everything came up roses for Midland Legacy against Odessa in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 62-34 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Odessa's Jaylien Jones, who threw for 274 yards and four touchdowns. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Midland Legacy to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
