Basketball Game Preview: Ralston Valley Mustangs vs. Pine Creek Eagles

Ralston Valley and Pine Creek are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Ralston Valley Mustangs are taking a road trip to take on the Pine Creek Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Ralston Valley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Fruita Monument 63-28. The Mustangs pushed the score to 54-28 by the end of the third, a deficit the Wildcats had little chance of recovering from.

Santana Sabus continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double with 27 points and 15 boards. Ralston Valley is 7-2 when Sabus posts ten or more rebounds, but 6-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kailey Townsend, who posted ten points.

Meanwhile, Pine Creek waltzed into their match on Saturday with 12 straight wins... but they left with 13. They put the hurt on the Trailblazers with a sharp 61-36 win. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Trailblazers are ranked 54th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pine Creek pushed their record up to 22-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.3 points on average over those games. As for Ralston Valley, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 13-11.

Ralston Valley came up short against Pine Creek in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 47-43. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Pine Creek's Brooklyn Stewart, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 19 boards.
