Soccer Game Preview: Canterbury vs. Gateway

The Canterbury Cougars will challenge the Gateway Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Gateway is hoping to do what The Village School of Naples couldn't on Monday: put an end to Canterbury's winning streak, which now stands at ten games. Canterbury never let The Village School of Naples onto the board and left with an 8-0 win. The Cougars' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last four games.

Their offense was hitting The Village School of Naples from everywhere, as six different players booted in a goal. Josh Wiese led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by himself.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Gateway, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past LaBelle 4-1 on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Eagles needed considering they were shutout in their previous matchup.

Canterbury's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 28 goals over those six contests. As for Gateway, their win bumped their record up to 7-3-1.

Canterbury took their victory against Gateway when the teams last played back in December of 2022 by a conclusive 5-1. Does Canterbury have another victory up their sleeve, or will Gateway turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
