Basketball Recap: Sandhills Valley Mavericks vs. Paxton Tigers
The Sandhills Valley Mavericks fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Paxton Tigers on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 40-39 to the Tigers. Sandhills Valley's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Sandhills Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Braden Powell, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Layher, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Josh Eakins continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Paxton, scoring 18 points along with six rebounds. Eakins has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last four times he's played.
Sandhills Valley's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Paxton, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sandhills Valley will take on the Haymakers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Paxton, they will head out on the road to square off against the Panthers at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Hershey is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
