Not much got past Braden Smith, who gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Jensen Beach off the board. Smith has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, George Jenkins' victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kam Wilson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.
George Jenkins hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jensen Beach struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, Merritt Island waltzed into their contest on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Sentinels.
The team relied heavily on Liam Miller, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Nate Bailey, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
George Jenkins' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Merritt Island, their record now sits at 10-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. George Jenkins has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Merritt Island struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
