Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Abdou Diop and Beckett Coon Lead Fuquay - Varina to Victory

After losing to Enloe the last time they met, Fuquay - Varina decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Bengals managed a 68-62 win over the Eagles on Tuesday. While the Bengals didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Fuquay - Varina was led to victory by Beckett Coon and Abdou Diop. Coon went 6-for-8 from beyond the arc en route to 29 points, while Diop shot 54% from the field on his way to 20 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Coon a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (75%). Another player making a difference was Paxton Coon, who posted 11 points.

When it comes to explaining why Enloe lost, don't look at Derryck Nzoungou. Despite the final result, he went 6-for-12 to rack up 14 points and eight rebounds. Nzoungou also put up a steal, which was his first of the season. Daniel Harvin was another key player, putting up 12 points along with six boards and three steals.

The victory (which was Fuquay - Varina's third in a row) raised their record to 5-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 81.3 points over those games. As for Enloe, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Coming up, Fuquay - Varina will challenge Willow Spring at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bengals will be up against the Storm's rather soft defense (which has allowed 54.8 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Enloe, they have already played their next contest, a 48-38 victory against Wake Forest on the 3rd.
