Basketball Recap: Amundsen Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Cj Fortier and Jackson Tate

If Amundsen was feeling good fresh off their 79-22 takedown of Chicago Academy last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Amundsen Vikings fell 62-52 to the Lane Tech Champions on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 216th, while the Champions are ranked 38th).

Despite the loss, Amundsen had strong showings from Jackson Tate, who posted 14 points and five boards, and Cj Fortier, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. Fortier is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last five games he's played.

Dalton Scantlebury continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lane Tech, almost dropping a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Scantlebury a new career-high in shooting accuracy (88%). Another player making a difference was Andrew Bartolai, who put up six points.

Amundsen's defeat dropped their record down to 13-4. As for Lane Tech, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season.

Amundsen didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 39-36 victory against Von Steuben on the 6th. As for Lane Tech, they have also already played their next game, an 85-33 win against Carver on the 4th.
