Softball Recap: Martinsville Takes a Loss

Martinsville extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 7-12 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 14-12 heartbreaker at the hands of the Red Hill Salukis. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bluestreaks have suffered since May 4, 2024.

Chloe Connelly was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Harper Baird, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

As for Red Hill, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-8 record. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the match before.

On Red Hill's side, Chloe Seed was incredible, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Seed is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Jayleigh Worland was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coming up, Martinsville will face off against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.6 runs per game on average), something the Bluestreaks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Red Hill, they will welcome Lawrenceville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
