Softball Game Preview: Peebles Indians vs. Northwest Mohawks

The Peebles Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Northwest Mohawks at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

Peebles came into this matchup off a tough seven-run defeat on Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of North Adams by a score of 10-8 on Thursday. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Northwest came tearing into Thursday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Huntsmen with a sharp 15-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mohawks, who have now won nine contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Kamryn Journey was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four runs and one double.

In other batting news, Mollyann Runyon was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kendra Bostwick, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

Northwest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Northwest pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Peebles, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.

Peebles came up short against Northwest in their previous meeting back in March of 2016, falling 4-1. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
