Football Recap: LBJ Austin Jaguars vs. Sam Houston Hurricanes
LBJ Austin took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They blew past the Sam Houston Hurricanes 46-13. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Jaguars' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while the Hurricanes are ranked 723rd).
LBJ Austin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Marquis Murry II led the charge by rushing for 175 yards and a pair of TDs on only 11 carries, while also picking up 53 receiving yards and one touchdown. Murry II also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack and making four total tackles (3.0 for loss). Louis Hickman also helped out as he racked up 161 rushing yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to LBJ Austin's defense and their three sacks. Joshua Covington was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Another thorn in Sam Houston's side was Joshua Walker- Washington, who forced one fumble and made eight total tackles (2.0 for loss).
LBJ Austin will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Wimberley at 7:30 p.m. on the 12th. As for Sam Houston, they will host Floresville at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
