Baseball Preview: Hillsdale Falcons vs. Black River Pirates
The Hillsdale Falcons will take on the Black River Pirates at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hillsdale will be strutting in after a victory while Black River will be coming in after a loss.
Hillsdale was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Crestview on Friday. The Falcons were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Cougars. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won five in a row.
Hillsdale got a massive performance out of Knox Lewis, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Lewis has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brock Bower, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Hillsdale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crestview only posted a batting average of .167.
Meanwhile, Black River suffered their biggest loss since April 10, 2024 on Friday. They came up short against Chippewa, falling 15-2.
The victory got Hillsdale back to even at 2-2. As for Black River, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hillsdale has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Black River struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
