Basketball Game Preview: Hay Springs Hawks vs. Bridgeport Bulldogs

The Hay Springs Hawks will challenge the Bridgeport Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Last Tuesday, Hay Springs ended up a good deal behind Morrill and lost 41-26. While the Hawks didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Lions 9-5 in the first quarter.

Despite the defeat, Hay Springs had strong showings from Julia Russell, who posted six points along with 13 boards and three steals, and Devyn Young, who had 11 points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks. Young is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.

Meanwhile, Bridgeport put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They really took it to Hemingford for the full four quarters, racking up a 73-7 win. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 56-7.

Bridgeport's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.5 points per game. As for Hay Springs, they now have a losing record at 1-2.

Hay Springs was taken down by Bridgeport 72-28 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can Hay Springs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
