Basketball Recap: McQueen Comes Up Short

McQueen lost against Spanish Springs back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The McQueen Lancers had to suffer through a 72-43 loss at the hands of the Spanish Springs Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Lancers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while the Cougars are ranked fifth).

Several Lancers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alex Hancock, who went 6 for 14 en route to 14 points. Another player making a difference was Abram Carpenter, who went 5 of 6 on his way to 11 points.

Spanish Springs' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Travis Lee, who went 7 for 14 en route to 16 points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks. Those three blocks gave Lee a new career-high. Owen Hensley was another key player, going 5 of 7 on his way to 11 points and six boards.

McQueen has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season. As for Spanish Springs, they pushed their record up to 19-4 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home.

McQueen will take on Reno at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. McQueen is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.3 points per game this season. As for Spanish Springs, they will face off against Reed at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Spanish Springs' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
