Basketball Recap: Lakota Tech Piles Up the Points Against Alliance

Lakota Tech had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.8 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Alliance Bulldogs 65-35. Given the Tatanka's advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 19th in South Dakota, while the Bulldogs are ranked 261st in Nebraska), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lakota Tech got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Bella Shangreaux out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards. Shangreaux has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Shania Ferguson, who posted 15 points in addition to six assists and five steals.

Lakota Tech's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Alliance, they dropped their record down to 0-11 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Lakota Tech will head out to square off against Mahpiya Luta at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mahpiya Luta knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Lakota Tech likes a good challenge. As for Alliance, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 55-30 defeat against Bridgeport on the 11th.
