Baseball Recap: ABF Academy Starts Season with Loss at Home

ABF Academy unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the IMater Charter Knights by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. The Cowboys were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Ariel Rivera was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, ABF Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gian Luigi Ospina, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for iMater Charter and bumps their season record up to 2-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. ABF Academy will venture away from home to square off against Key West at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for iMater Charter, they will head out to challenge Miami Beach at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
