Baseball Recap: Holy Cross Comes Up Short

Holy Cross extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-10 in the process. They came up short against the Xaverian Clippers, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Clippers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 on April 2nd.

As for Xaverian, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games.

For Xaverian's part, Jude VanOoyen looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Danny Cronin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lucas Zafra, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holy Cross will venture away from home to face off against Chaminade at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Xaverian, they will square off against Monsignor McClancy at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
