D'Arbonne Woods will take on the East Ascension Spartans in a tournament on Saturday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
D'Arbonne Woods was handed a nine-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out St. Frederick 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory D'Arbonne Woods has posted since March 16, 2024.
Aubrey Zachary spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Joley Bennett was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Edwards, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Bennett wasn't the only one working in the home run department: D'Arbonne Woods lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for East Ascension, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 14-3 margin over Oak Grove on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Spartans needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Mckenzie Creel made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had over her last ten games. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, East Ascension got a massive performance out of Adelynne Bradberry, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Bradberry has posted over her last 14 contests. Another player making a difference was Cayden Tullier, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
D'Arbonne Woods is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. East Ascension's record now sits at 9-7.
