Basketball Game Preview: St. Mary's Saints vs. Sanford Warriors

The St. Mary's Saints and the Sanford Warriors will round out the year against one another at at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (St. Mary's has three straight victories, Sanford has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Saturday, St. Mary's didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against South River, but they still walked away with a 39-34 win.

It was another big night for Alexandra Vandiver, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Bailey Harris, who posted eight points in addition to 13 rebounds and three steals.

St. Mary's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Sanford is ranked highly in their home state and on Friday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Cherry Creek. Sanford had to suffer through a 67-34 loss at the hands of Cherry Creek.

St. Mary's pushed their record up to 7-5 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Sanford, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
