Softball Game Preview: Potomac Falls Panthers vs. Briar Woods Falcons

For the second straight game, Potomac Falls will face off against Briar Woods. The Panthers are taking a road trip to square off against the Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Potomac Falls managed to slip by Briar Woods the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Panthers lost 10-1 to the Falcons on Thursday.

For Briar Woods' part, Caprice Bohmer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Bohmer has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Kara Yurish was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Gabbie Cornista also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Briar Woods always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Potomac Falls only posted an OBP of .267.

Briar Woods is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Potomac Falls, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.
