Basketball Recap: Taylorsville Sets Scoring Season-High Against West Jordan

Taylorsville scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell to the West Jordan Jaguars 67-62. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (60), the Warriors still had to take the loss.

Despite the defeat, Taylorsville saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Karen Jones posted 25 points and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jones has scored all season. Kaitlin Sterzer was another key player, putting up eight points and 17 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Taylorsville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Leading West Jordan to victory were Giselle Muffett and Erilyn Lokeni. Muffett had 25 points in addition to eight boards and six steals, while Lokeni dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Muffett has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 11 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Francine McIntyre, who scored eight points and five boards.

Taylorsville moved to 5-10 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for West Jordan, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Taylorsville will challenge Hunter at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. As for West Jordan, they will take on Cyprus at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in West Jordan's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven contests.
