Coalinga gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hoover Patriots a 3-0 shutout. For the Horned Toads, this counts as revenge for the 6-0 win the Patriots walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.
Not much got past Luis Gutierrez, who gave up just seven hits to keep Hoover off the board. The dominant performance also gave Gutierrez a new career-low in walks (one).
On the hitting side, Noah Tasi was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Luke Wojewoda was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Coalinga was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hoover only posted a batting average of .222.
