Baseball Recap: Sanderson Takes a Loss

Sanderson extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 4-14 in the process. They lost 15-0 to the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 18-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

As for Cardinal Gibbons, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games.

For Cardinal Gibbons' part, Bryce Fitzsimmons and Jakub Mudd did most of the damage at the plate: Fitzsimmons went a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple, while Mudd went 3-for-4 with two triples, five RBI, and two runs. Those five hits gave Fitzsimmons a new career-high. Jack Richards was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

While Sanderson had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
