Baseball Recap: Union County Find Success

Union County proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 24) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Lawrenceburg Tigers. This was payback for the Patriots, who suffered an 8-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Ezra Hensley tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had over his last seven contests.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cole Cheatham, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Payne, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

Union County's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-7. As for Lawrenceburg, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Union County will welcome Hagerstown at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season. As for Lawrenceburg, they will challenge Connersville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
