Baseball Recap: Chewelah's Undefeated Season over After 18 Games

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Chewelah nor Newport made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Cougars fell 4-0 to the Grizzlies. The match marked the first time this year in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.

Grady Skok was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Having lost for the first time this season, Chewelah fell to 17-1. As for Newport, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

Chewelah will take on Almira-Coulee-Hartline at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Newport will be paying especially close attention to the Cougars' contest: after the Cougars face off against the Warriors, they'll take on Newport again at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
