Basketball Recap: Mount Vernon Patriots vs. Merit Preparatory Academy Knights
Mount Vernon lost against Merit Preparatory Academy last Friday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mount Vernon Patriots were outmatched by the Merit Preparatory Academy Knights and fell 86-15.
Andre Hernandez was Mount Vernon's leading scorer, having posted six points. Dominick Garcia held things down on the boards with seven rebounds.
Merit Preparatory Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ayden Martinez, who went 8 for 13 on his way to 17 points in addition to eight boards and six steals. Those six steals gave Martinez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Miles Petersen, who went 9 of 14 on his way to 20 points and seven rebounds.
Mount Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Merit Preparatory Academy, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Mount Vernon will venture away from home to take on Green River at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Merit Preparatory Academy, they and Pinnacle will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played.
