Baseball Game Preview: Russell Red Devils vs. Montgomery County Indians

The Russell Red Devils will face off against the Montgomery County Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses apiece.

Russell couldn't beat Lawrence County on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Red Devils fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 9-7. That's two games in a row now that the Red Devils have lost by exactly two runs.

Kyle Mokas was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Russell is 7-2 when Mokas posts two or more runs, but 3-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Dawson Wada, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Montgomery County lost 9-2 to George Rogers Clark on Thursday.

Montgomery County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Copher, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one run.

Montgomery County's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Russell, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.

Montgomery County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Russell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. It's a different story for Montgomery County, though, as they've only averaged .248. Will they be able to contain Russell's hitters?

Russell beat Montgomery County 9-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2017. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
