Baseball Recap: Mosley Snags Fifth Victory in Last Six Games

Mosley won against Karns on Thursday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Mosley Dolphins walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Knoxville Catholic Fighting Irish. For the Dolphins, this counts as revenge for the 5-0 win the Fighting Irish walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2022.

Carter Payne made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. He has become a key player for Mosley: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-7 otherwise. Payne was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reed Kyle, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in February.

Mosley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Knoxville Catholic struck out ten times.

Mosley is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. Knoxville Catholic has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

Mosley will be playing at home against Sequoyah at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Knoxville Catholic, they will face off against McCallie at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
