Baseball Recap: Saint Francis Takes Down Ranked Junipero Serra

Saint Francis faced Junipero Serra in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Lancers' pitchers stepped up to hand the Padres a 4-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for the Lancers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Landon Kim tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 6.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Matteo Pignati, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. Kyle McMillan was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Saint Francis' victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2. As for Junipero Serra, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 10-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Padres beat Saint Francis by a score of 5-3 on Friday.
