Softball Recap: Hurricane Tigers vs. Payson Lions
Hurricane extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 11-17 in the process. They lost 13-1 to the Payson Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-2 back in March.
Hurricane saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ruby Seely, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Seely has hit this season.
As for Payson, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 19-4. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
On Payson's side, they got a great performance from Peyton Staheli as she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Staheli has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, London Armstrong was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Anna Marvin was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Hurricane does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Payson, they will venture away from home to square off against Bear River at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
