Baseball Game Preview: Windber Ramblers vs. Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers

The Windber Ramblers will take on the Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.

Windber came out on top against North Star on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Ramblers walked away with a 10-5 win over the Cougars.

Dalton Strick was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Windber: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Lucas Oleksa was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Berlin Brothersvalley never let their opponents score on Friday. They came out on top against Shanksville Stonycreek by a score of 3-0.

Nick Koval was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Berlin Brothersvalley's victory bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Windber, the win got them back to even at 9-9.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Windber has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Berlin Brothersvalley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Windber took their victory against Berlin Brothersvalley in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 13-2 score. Will the Ramblers repeat their success, or do the Mountaineers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
