League recap: Skyline tops Newport to extend winning streak

Skyline extended the longest winning streak in 4A KingCo - Crown this week by beating Newport, 34-17. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.

Issaquah took down Ballard 41-18 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Jacob Ta'ase put up the best numbers in passing as the Beavers fell to the Eagles. He finished with 8 completions for 120 yards and 1 touchdown. Ta'ase's favorite target this week was Siddique Newkirk, who caught 5 passes for 85 yards.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Ballard's Ta'ase and Newkirk have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-10 quarterback Ta'ase has thrown for 1,192 yards this season, while Newkirk has 21 catches for 363 yards. Conner Baumann from the Knights leads the league in rushing with 810 yards.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Skyline and Issaquah. Mat Taylor's team comes into the matchup ranked sixth in the state, while Chris Bennett's team ranks 18th.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Spartans take on the Eagles. Skyline has allowed 116 points this season, while Issaquah has given up 149. The Spartans allowed 17 points last week as they topped Newport.

Garfield made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,301 from 10,359. The advance stemmed from a 35-20 victory over the Bulldogs last week.
