Baseball Recap: Pine Island Triumphs

After losing to Lake City the last time they met, Pine Island decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Panthers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Tigers 2-1.

Alex Knox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Pine Island's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nick Thein, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Pine Island's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Lake City, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Pine Island will face off against Goodhue at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lake City, they will square off against Rushford-Peterson at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight.
